The two antennas that are connected to the amplifier need to be a certain distance apart. If they are too close, the amplifier will automatically reduce the gain to prevent signal oscillation (similar to microphone feedback). The Green SST® LED on the amplifier would be blinking red if the antennas are not properly separated.

SBX Amplifiers can be used with a hands-free car kit or direct connect cable to the cell phone or the Boston Amplifier In-Vehicle Antenna. If used with the In-Vehicle Antenna the cell phone must be in a cell phone cradle with the In-Vehicle Antenna on the inside of the windshield or the side panel of the windshield.

Bi-directional Amplifiers are wireless amplifiers and need no direct connection to the cell phone.
